Histamine. What is it?

In your body you have mast cells, these are immune cells that are responsible for releasing histamine and other chemicals into your blood to cause a reaction from your body. The important one we want to focus on is histamine. When your mast cell is activated by a substance (i.e. pollen) it triggers your immune system to release histamine, this is very helpful when you are having an allergic reaction or an infection but is incredibly frustrating when you don’t, a perfect example of this is hayfever.

Sometimes certain skin treatments can also lead to having increased histamine production. If you feel like you have intense hay fever, or possibly you are more itchy, have a stuffy nose be sure to let us know so we can make necessary changes if need be!

Clinician Tips

HAYFEVER
Haytox is the newest the treatment on the market for hay fever, it takes 15 minutes and is painless yet effective.

SINUS

When feeling sinusy, full or stuffy, come in for a white LED to help reduce the symptoms and pressure.

QUERCETIN

Quercetin is an incredible supplement that you take daily, it is an antioxidant and anti inflammatory that aids symptoms. Our favourite brand is BioCeuticals, it can be purchased from most chemists.

ANTI HISTAMINE

We (like most Canberrans) have been needing to take anti histamines daily with the amount of pollen in the air - although effective, once taken for an extended period of time can become ineffective, our recommendation is to regularly change the brand and type of antihistamine you take to ensure you are still getting the benefits.
