What is skin needling?

Skin Needling is a treatment we use here in the clinic for many different reasons. Its benefits range from age management to acne scarring. Although it can be painful we find it one of the most effective treatments we have!

What is Skin Needling?

Skin Needling is a treatment where we use a device to create micro-traumas into the skin to stimulate a healing response, which in turn increases the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin help your skin look younger, smoother, and more radiant. Skin Needling is so effective as it boosts your natural production of collagen and elastin from below the surface of your skin, influencing the cell cycles from below with lots of healthy, rejuvenated skin cells!

What are the benefits of Skin Needling?

There are many benefits for skin needling from age management all the way to acne scarring. Some of the benefits include:

How is skin needling performed?

We use a Skin Needling pen here at the clinic called the Dermapen 4. The needling pen creates 1,920 micro-channels into your face per second, creating micro-traumas in your skin. This creates inflammation and a wound response in the skin triggering the production of collagen and elastin. The Needling Pen is a device in which each needling session we lock a new needle cartridge into place to ensure there is no spreading of bacteria. Before we start needling we also wipe down your face with an antibacterial prep that is entirely safe for your skin!

How do I get the best out of skin needling?

To ensure you are getting the most out of your skin needling treatment we highly recommend your skin barrier be entirely healed to ensure the best healing process and best results, this is why we can only offer this treatment to existing clients at the clinic. When the skin barrier is impaired its ability to heal and perform in the way it needs to for healing, regeneration, etc. the barrier needs to be healed. We always have our clients on a supported skincare regime to help their skin heal and keep their skin as healthy as possible. We encourage clients to have a hydrating element whether that be a hyaluronic acid or lipid hydrator being an oil! We find healing happens best when our clients also have internal support with EFA’s and Ultimate 1.0 to support their bodies’ healing process.

Needling FAQ - Answered by Maggie

  1. Does it hurt?

Honestly, it’s what you would expect for needling, however, for my first needling, it wasn’t as bad as I thought, I found it super beneficial to use the vibrating rose quartz roller under my jaw - this helped me process the pain!

  2. What was the downtime like?

On the first day, I was quite red and by the end of the day, it felt sunburnt. On day 2 I noticed the texture of my skin had changed and it was a bit rougher, with slight redness, and felt sunburnt. By day 4 my skin looked completely fine and if anything it looked better!

  3. What is the treatment itself like?

I didn’t mind it and 100% cannot wait for my next one. The needling component only goes for 7 -10 minutes and is over before you know it, you then get a sheet mask which has a calming and cooling effect AND you get an amazing head massage so by the time you were finished you forgot what had just happened!

  4. Do you prefer green peels or needling?

This is a super tough question, I guess it depends on what is happening with my skin, if I’m feeling super congested and just need a refresh I’ll go for my green dream however if I want to improve some of my scarrings and give my skin a more long term approach needling it is!!
